Light Tracking Solution Enables Self-Monitoring to Improve Personal and Population Health
PRESS RELEASE ISSUED TODAY
GoodLux Technology, creator of the SunSprite solution that tracks a person’s bright light intake, announced today at the Digital Health Summit at CES that its first 1,000 light trackers sold have encouraged 82% of users to improve their daily habits. SunSprite engages patients to self-manage depression through effective use of bright light therapy (BLT). It is comprised of a wearable light tracker and a mobile app that provides real-time feedback and analytics about an individual’s progress on BLT, thus improving patients’ adherence and outcomes. “Our customers see SunSprite’s impact on their mood within one to two weeks of use—and without any side effects—in comparison to several months of using pharmaceuticals,” said Edward Likovich, CEO of GoodLux Technology. “More than 82% of our surveyed customers have changed their behavior and 73% report improvement in mood and energy. Given this strong user feedback and market shift of wearables towards health, we started pilots with healthcare organizations to engage patients to self-manage their depression and associated disorders.”
The GoodLux team of clinicians, engineers, and health organization experts is conducting pilots for SunSprite to help manage depression and related disorders with six healthcare providers. The company is actively seeking additional pilot opportunities for patients that are part of an ACO plan. Engaging patients in their treatment of co-morbid chronic diseases improves patients’ adherence and outcomes, and reduces cost for ACOs managing population health.
73% OF SUNSPRITE USERS EXPERIENCE IMPROVED MOOD, ENERGY, FOCUS AND SLEEP
Awarded “Health Innovation of the Year” in November 2014 by Popular Science, the SunSprite solution consists of a light-tracking device that patients wear on a daily basis and a mobile app for additional data analysis. The data from SunSprite syncs to the cloud via iPhone. Patients can share their data with their clinician and treatment can be adapted as needed. In a survey of SunSprite users, 73% report an improvement in mental health—mood, energy, focus or sleep.
